Finnish Public Broadcasting Company, YLE, wanted to promote their new TV series (under NDA) that deals with symbolism throughout time. They wanted an interactive commercial that would enable their potential potential viewers to apply symbol meanings to themselves. The series was previously unknown and the budget of the project low.
The broad historical symbol systems had to made relatable to present day viewer.
Firstly we wanted to be subtle in promoting the series and to encourage them watch and share the show. To achieve this we wanted to give the viewer a personalized answer based on their current hairstyle - an important personal symbol. We decided to make use of viewer's own cellphone camera and to anylyse their hairstyle with machine vision. Making the test as convienient as possible was important in order not to drive off viewers with short attention span.
